All the problems of the world, throughout the history of humankind, can be boiled down to a single thing: excesses of the human ego. The pursuit of the satisfaction of the ego and the upholding of the supremacy of one’s own self has led to every ill in human history: slavery, imperialism, sexism, racism, oppressive religious dogma, consumerism, the environmental crisis, and the threat of global annihilation at our own hands.
Human beings are a part of Nature. Somewhere in our history, we have forgotten that. Somehow, we have lost touch with spirit. And I don’t mean “spirit” in some empty religious sense; when I say spirit, I mean that REAL invisible connect with Nature, I mean the realization that we ARE Nature, and I mean the infinite richness of our own internal spirituality which has nothing to do with notions of God or ritual.
Now, philosophy is one way to reconnect with spirit. Philosophy is about so many things: it is about making yourself happy; it is about analyzing and assessing yourself and the things you do; it is about saving the world, and after all why not, because it’s all for us.
But there’s just so much of it, where to begin? And I know you are like me, and have a short attention span, and just cannot sit down to read. What now?
Well, you don’t need to read anything. Philosophy is available for you in short, bite-size pieces presented in a friendly, entertaining way. It’s all out there on the internet. You don’t need to spend a month reading a huge book or spend years in scholarly research- all that has been done for you. All you need is 5-10 minutes a day and an internet connection.
And I know you guys are checking your phone and your Facebook multiple times a day. I can show you stats, it’s what I do for a living, so let’s not bullshit each other. All you have to do is ONCE a day deviate from that pattern and spend 5-10 minutes somewhere else. It doesn’t have to be here, but this is a place you could start.
But why? Because once an idea enters your head, it can change your perception of things. But no matter how much anyone tells it to you, you won’t believe it UNTIL it comes from you. You only believe everything that you truly believe because YOU tell it to yourself. You may follow what someone else says, but you will only ever believe what YOU say. Hence the change has to come from within.
What we are calling for is a re-introduction of spirit in the popular dialogue. A reboot of the spirit. These ideas must enter your consciousness, AND YOU MUST DECIDE FOR YOURSELF HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THEM.
You don’t need to do anything. You don’t have to start an armed revolution or take up politics, or any action that seeks to change things from the top. Start at the bottom, at YOURSELF. Do the simplest thing, the absolute easiest thing that anyone in the world could possibly do: QUESTION. And do that to everything, even to what I am telling you now.
Question, question, question. Only you can make any decision for yourself. Every human being has got to figure it out for themselves, and this happens when they question. If every person did this one, tiny, maniacally simple thing, the world would be a much groovier place.
So, what THE SPIRIT REBOOTED seeks to do is make it all the more easier for you. I know you don’t want to read complex, archaic texts, but there is a way to get philosophy is a format that YOU CAN RELATE TO AND UNDERSTAND (and if I can understand it, trust me, anyone can). If you don’t know where to start, then start at random. If you are starting at zero, with no background whatsoever, it doesn’t matter, because no one knows everything. And it’s super easy, because you know all of this stuff already, you’ve just never really thought about it. But the time to not think is over.
We intend to post fresh content every Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday (at least) with a new video every one or two weeks (if the flow of the Universe permits).
