Elon Musk

Elon Musk is like a real life Bruce Wayne, or a Tony Stark depending on whether you favor DC or Marvel. He’s a billionaire, a super techo-genius, and- let’s face it- devilishly handsome.

The point is that he is doing a lot of great work towards sustainable solutions for energy and transport issues. He is the founder of several companies that are on the cutting edge of technology.

He is very well known for the electric cars from his company, Tesla Motors. But in a turn of true green-spiritedness, in 2014 Elon Musk announced that Tesla Motors will allow its technology patents to be used by anyone in good faith in a bid to entice automobile manufacturers to speed up the development of electric cars. Here’s an example we can all follow. Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne would have been proud. Fuel consumption and the deleterious effects of fuel combustion on our environment are MAJOR ISSUES that have come to a head, and Mr. Musk’s initiative is an inspiration.

Elon Musk has also conceptualized OpenAI, a not-for-profit artificial intelligence (AI) research company. OpenAI makes AI open to anyone who wants to contribute, and seeks to develop AI in a way that is safe and beneficial to humanity, as opposed to a scene from The Matrix or Terminator. OpenAI wants to “counteract large corporations who may gain too much power by owning super-intelligence systems devoted to profits, as well as governments which may use AI to gain power and even oppress their citizenry.”

The lesson here is that 1) Elon Musk is definitely someone we can look to for providing at least a base for some of the sustainable solutions we will need in the very near future, and 2) if you have some kind of genius idea, share it with the world. Sure, make as much money as you want out of it, but after a certain point, the planet’s dire need of Nature-saving technology surely outweighs the personal greed of any one individual or corporation.

Cheers, Elon.

You can stop reading here, the main message of this post has been delivered, but anyway here are some of Elon Musk’s well-known feats:

His company Space X, dedicated to making space flight cheaper, produces the rocket motor with the highest thrust-to-weight ratio and was awarded a contract by NASA for developing an astronaut transport vehicle. This is his effort to push humankind to be a “true spacefaring civilization.” Space X also seems to be a far more cost efficient solution than the competition. Plus, Elon has tied up with superhero costume designer Jose Fernandez to design a badass spacesuit. Musk definitely has a sense of style.

His company Tesla Motors produces some of the highest-end electric cars around. Not only are they easy on the environment, they are really easy on the eye. Check them out, few people would mind being seen in one of these. Tesla is currently expanding its network of supercharging stations (like gas stations for Tesla cars) in the US, and this will only go a long way in further promoting the manufacture and use of electric cars. His company is helping blaze the path to a greener tomorrow.

SolarCity, along with Tesla, was created with the motivation to help fight global warming. SolarCity is now the second largest provider of solar power systems in the US. Renewable energy gets a bad rap because it’s expensive to research and difficult to turn a profit from, but Elon Musk is betting on the future of the planet.

Hyperloop is an exciting transportation project where they are using air-pressure inside tubes to transport specialized trains. If successful, it could result in the building of a transportation system similar to the one mentioned in Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, except instead of using superconducting mag-rails, it would use these pressure driven trains. Their first demonstrative test, conducted recently, has been a success.
