The School of Life is a brilliant YouTube channel (go and subscribe!) featuring short and sweet videos on a broad range of philosophical topics covering things like the history of certain ideas, pop culture, capitalism, relationships and sex, drugs, and the schools of thoughts of various famous philosophers all boiled down, summarized, and animated into tiny, relatable clips. It’s a perfect way to get some philosophy in under 10 minutes, perhaps while you’re on the john in the morning. What better way to start your day then to empty to the body and fill the mind?
The school of life wishes to cover the subjects that we are not taught in traditional schools but that we must have a grasp on for a happy and fruitful life. It is particularly commendable for the broad spectrum of subjects it covers; many differing ideas and thoughts are presented and it is left for you to find out what works for you. You get to decide what is a happy and fruitful life for yourself.
To get started, watch the introduction to the channel above. And also, here’s is a video on the philosopher, Epicurus. His ideas on what brings happiness and the Epicurean commune may appeal to your bohemian sensibilities.
